Deer Creek '95 as told through those mid-90s dreamlike split screens
Greetings Witches,
Last night’s Dinner and a Movie was extraordinary not only because of the show it served up — June 19, 1995, at the Deer Creek Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana (setlist) — but for the footage itself.
Like a perfect mid-90s time capsule, the stream was near-crystal clear SD with multi-cam fade shots alternating between the four members of the band depending on who was playing what and where things were in the song.
It was unreal!
We don’t know where the footage came from, but a leading theory, at least to me, is that it was venue tape — the only evidence we have to work with is the logo frame that bookended the stream. But if it was venue-produced, it had to have been a fan. They knew who to feature when and even alternated between Trey, Page and Mike during Run Like an Antelope, much like Chris Kuroda might do with the lights.
I want to know a whole lot more and I’m going to dedicate a future newsletter investigating the story of the Deer Creek footage. This I promise you.
But for now, let’s enjoy a bunch of random split-screen grabs and gifs in hopes that this feature makes it through to 4.0 when concerts make their way back into our lives.
